The Goal: To promote entrepreneurship in the world of visual arts by equipping aspiring artists with the business skills and exposure they need to strengthen their artistic career.
The Business of Art, one of SIFE York’s projects newest projects, aims to make a positive impact in the surrounding community. This project involves a one-day conference, personal consulting and an art exhibition/sale for emerging artists who wish to develop their business skills and establish their careers. Through this initiative, SIFE York hopes to provide emerging artists with the resources, knowledge and connections required to increase their visibility and art sales. Topics such as social media, brand management, finance and business plan building will be covered.
This project can be summarized into the following mission statements:
- To work with emerging artists to develop their business skills through comprehensive business education, changing the perception about business, building a community and connecting them with the public.
- Business Education: As many artists are entrepreneurs, we want to equip emerging artists with the skills necessary to build a strong business.
- Changing the Perception of Business: We want to bridge the disconnect between business and art, by encouraging artists to develop their business and creating a positive perception about promoting themselves.
- Building a Community: Through our conference and online support, we want to connect artists with each other and mentors.
